Project Overview
Weatherite Aluminium Solutions was appointed to deliver a full design, manufacture, supply and installation package at Amazon’s DSA6 fulfilment centre in Wakefield, West Yorkshire. The project, valued at £1.4 million, formed part of Amazon’s ongoing investment and expansion across its UK logistics portfolio.
The contract was awarded on the strength of Weatherite’s successful delivery of a previous scheme for Amazon, with prior performance and proven capability being key deciding factors. Weatherite has also carried out works for Amazon at sites in Darlington and Durham, further cementing the long-standing working relationship between the two organisations.
Scope of Works
Weatherite’s involvement covered the complete project lifecycle, from initial design through to final installation. The primary systems supplied and installed as part of this contract were:
- Altec ACW 003–001 aluminium curtain walling system
- Smartwall doors
- Smarts Alitherm 600 ribbon windows
In addition to the standard specification, Weatherite received a further order to design and supply bespoke louvres and external cladding to the building’s breakout areas. This introduced new technical elements to the scheme, requiring tailored design solutions to meet both the aesthetic and performance requirements of the external environment.
Why Weatherite?
The contract was not awarded through a competitive tender process based on pricing alone. Instead, it was the result of Weatherite’s track record with Amazon across previous projects, including earlier works at Darlington and Durham. Amazon’s confidence in Weatherite’s ability to deliver to programme, quality and specification was the primary reason for their continued appointment, reflecting the strength of the relationship built up over a number of years.
